Public campaign: help Budapest to prevent the spread of COVID-19

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. Prevent illness by maintaining social distancing and following basic hygiene rules. The most important precautions are the following:
  • Stay at home. Avoid crowded places under all circumstances and maintain at least 2 meters distance from others, e.g. in the shops, queuing. When possible, manage things either over the phone or on the Internet. Only run essential in-person errands.
  • All public services and utility companies in the capital offer online or telephone help-desks.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth especially with unwashed hands.
  • Clean your hands regularly and thoroughly! Use soap and water and if possible, a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Pay particular attention to the nails and between the fingers.
  • Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissues immediately.
  • Avoid people who are coughing or showing signs respiratory symptoms! Avoid close contact with patients with fever.
  • Avoid unnecessary physical contact, e.g. do not shake hands when greeting, avoid kissing or hugging friends. To protect others, do not grab items you do not intend to buy in stores, especially baked goods, vegetables and fruits. Pay with a contactless when possible.
  • Ventilate frequently at home and at work or in any enclosed space.
  • Pay close attention to strengthening your immune system, e.g. eat enough vitamins!
  • Facemasks are first and foremost recommended to those who are sick, to avoid spreading the virus via sneezing or couching. If you are healthy, using a simple face mask alone will not prevent infection, the aforementioned measures are much more effective.

Protect your elderly family members and acquaintances, as they are at greater risk of a serious infection. Help them shop for groceries and medication, buy medication, handling urgent matters. Be careful not to infect them, keep to minimum contact and instead keep in touch on the phone.
